Kink braided cotton is what we recommend to all shibari beginners — flexibility, price, no aggressive marking. The 20m rope is the versatile format (12m for arms only, 25m for full suspension). My advice: start by watching a YouTube takate-kote tutorial before your first tie, the movement is easier to understand visually than verbally.

20 meters of braided black cotton rope — enough for a full shibari harness, separate wrist/ankle ties, or to tie your man to a ring on the wall. Soft in hand right out of the package, glides without burning the skin, doesn't mark like traditional jute.

Glides without burning the skin, unlike jute

Braided cotton is soft against the skin — you can tie it tight without leaving burn marks or redness. Traditional jute used in authentic shibari is rough and leaves marks from the first tightening, which is the desired effect for experienced practitioners. For beginners or those who don't want their partner to have visible marks the next day at work, cotton is the best compromise.

20 meters for a full harness or multiple ties

20m = the standard length for a full shibari harness (torso + arms + legs), or for 4-5 separate simple ties (wrists, ankles, waist). You can cut it if you prefer distinct lengths (13m is typical for a simple harness). 6mm diameter — thin enough for precise knots, thick enough not to cut the skin when tightened.

For classic shibari figures

Start with classics: simple chest harness, takate-kote (wrists behind the back), gote-shibari (arms-hands behind the torso). YouTube tutorials and gay shibari workshops in big cities rely on this type of cotton rope. For more advanced plans (suspension, complex figures), switch to traditional jute when you're ready — but start here.
